Introduction: This is part 2 of the shiny windows tutorial although it won't at all teach you about windows. Instead I will go through creative ways of using the wndw33/66. Metal and Metal Pipes: Metal is seen in the 'bar_sy' map on the side view of stair steps. See Fig. 5. It uses the steel town sky 'ST' to give it that slight orange color that matches the surroundings. This gave me an idea on making huge pipes of metal with the 'SR' and 'ST' sky below for you to compare with and to show the differences between 33 and 66. See Fig. 1-4 and see for yourself.
as you can see, because the effect only works well for dark skies and wndw66 and has a bad way of merging together brushes that slant at a different angle, Fig. 3 to me looks the best for metal pipes. Try using 'sky pv' for a dirty metal look. Click here for a whole list of Kingpin skies. Here is a simple use as seen in 'bar_sy' like said above.
Mirrors: Since Kingpin can not actually show a reflection, it would look better to use a 'wndw' effect rather than a texture. Also featured in 'bar_sy' is a beat up bathroom with shattered glass, but what remains give a semi realistic look. See Fig. 6.
Don't forget to actually try this nice mapping feature yourself. Run around and see how your movements interact with the world. Comments? Suggestions? email me at zirco@gamebox.net.
