HOUSE OF DEATH REVIEW

From the Author:

My first ever single player map pack!! Based in a haunted house, you will travel
through the depths of it, and back to the surface. I added in some pretty interesting
effects, like the flying sofa :). You also get to take a trip on a doomed runaway train!
SEVEN levels of frightening fun.

Overview:

You start in a cool movie theater cut scene saying 'House of Death by SoniK' then a countdown from 3. Cut scenes are great and since they're only available to single player, they should be used as much as possible and SoniK did a cool job at this.

You will see a lot of great atmosphere with awesome terrain and horrifying effects that are as scary as Kingpin can possibly get. Early in the game you will see a couch spin on every axis then plunge into the wall creating a path to proceed.

There are few places that have you wondering what to do next, one for example in the beginning when entering the house, you need to puch a book that will open the fireplace, but be careful there is a surpise when you turn around.

One of my favorite places in the game was when I met 3 thugs that I had to kill to get by, I saw half of the hallway splitting in two. I tried jumping across but only to realise I wasn't fast enough and fell into a red lit cavern.

Instead of the boring Kingpin rock textures, SoniK used a more realistic one, possibly from unreal tournament.

Below are screenshots of in game eye candy screenshots taken with a TNT2. It is near perfect except in my opinion the house could have been a little brighter since there are lots of lights. You'll need every second to complete the train level at the end because you're on a one way ride to a gravel filled tunnel.

Final Scores:

Structure: 100%

Realism: 95%
Fun: 98%
